Hamilton Named Interim Director of DASI
June 19, 2017
Drew HamiltonJohn A. "Drew" Hamilton, Jr. will serve as interim director of the Distributed Analytics and Security Institute (DASI) at Mississippi State, beginning June 16.
"We are very pleased that Dr. Hamilton has agreed to see one of the university's major research institutes through this leadership transition," said David Shaw, MSU's vice president for research and economic development.
David Dampier, the founding director of DASI, was recently named professor and interim chair of the Department of Information Systems and Cyber Security at the University of Texas-San Antonio. He will be assuming that new position in July.
"We wish Dave the very best as he begins a new chapter in his professional life, and we certainly do appreciate his many contributions to Mississippi State's nationally-recognized cybersecurity program," Shaw said.
Currently, Hamilton serves as director of the Center for Cyber Innovation (CCI) at MSU -- a role he will retain, according to Shaw.
"While all of our centers and institutes have their own unique missions, the work of DASI and CCI are very complementary, and Drew and I believe that this dual leadership role will be beneficial to both organizations," he said.
Hamilton also holds the rank of professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Mississippi State. He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and public relations from Texas Tech University, a master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California, and a master's degree in computer science from Vanderbilt University. He has a Ph.D. in computer science from Texas A&M University.
MSU is Mississippi's leading university, available online at www.msstate.edu.
